You must be willing to work at any duty location within the region you select, including but not limited to: Southeast Region: Homestead, FL and CAMB: Aguadilla, PR Southwest Region: Tucson and Yuma, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, Laredo, TX NASOC UAS locations: Sierra Vista, AZ; San Angelo, TX Duties and Responsibilities As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will perform aviation-based law enforcement operations for the detection, prevention, interdiction, and apprehension of terrorists, terrorist weapons, contraband, and persons attempting to illegally enter or attack the United States. Typical duties include: Conducting air patrols, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. Monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities. Collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence. Supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts. Salary and Benefits Starting as an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you can earn up to $106,000 - $127,000 annually based on your qualifications at the GS-11 grade level, with possible additional compensation depending on duty location and overtime (up to 25%). Your salary includes Special Salary Rate (SSR), Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP), Recruitment Incentive, and Retention Incentive. This career ladder position progresses through GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13 grades. Promotions to the next grade are automatic after 52 weeks at each level (with supervisor approval). Examples of annual compensation at authorized locations (including LEAP, Retention, or Recruitment incentives): GS-11, 1st year - $106,588 GS-12, 2nd year - $127,754 GS-13, 3rd year - $151,817 Additional incentives at locations with a 10% Retention Incentive or 25% Recruitment Incentive are reflected in the salaries listed in the original description. Air Interdiction Agents are eligible for federal employment benefits, including health, dental, insurance, generous leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (similar to a 401(k)). Qualifications Experience: To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of specialized professional aviation experience performing duties such as: Flying as Pilot-in-Command or sole manipulator in airplanes/helicopters in all environments, including night, poor weather, and low altitudes. Evaluating information rapidly and making prompt, judicious decisions during flights. Developing strategies and coordinating aircraft and ground assets. Using information systems and databases for surveys, queries, and updates. Minimum Certifications & Ratings: Current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with ratings in dual (airplane and rotorcraft with instrument ratings), or an equivalent military rating, with official documentation. Flight Hours: Minimum of 1500 total flight hours (waivers available for up to 500 hours), with specific hours in Pilot-in-Command, Instrument, and Night flying (waivers available through August 5, 2025). FAA Class 2 medical (within last 12 months) required; FAA Class 1 or military flight clearance also acceptable. Applicants with 750 flight hours must obtain additional hours before attending the flight assessment, depending on waiver approval. UAS Flight Hours: UAS hours (MQ-1, MQ-9) can count towards total flight hours but not towards Pilot-in-Command, Instrument, or Night hours. Other Requirements Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required. Residency: Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. Age: Max age for initial appointment is 40 (temporary increase approved). Age waivers and veterans' preference provisions apply. Training: Successful completion of required training is mandatory; failure may result in reassignment or separation.
